About the Author

I’m JKLucas...husband of more than thirty years, dad to two grown sons, and human to a pair of Goldendoodles (the greatest dogs ever…they insisted I add that).

The Ashen Program has been echoing in my head for nearly three decades; the bones of it took shape long before I finally gave it a home on the page. Now I’m building it out, one quiet, gritty story at a time (with an impressive number of potty breaks).

For over fifteen years I’ve studied American Kenpo, and I lean hard on those lessons...structure, restraint, timing...to shape the Ashen world and the people inside it. Kenpo taught me to respect pressure, to train principles over tricks, and to keep showing up…even when it’s messy. Those ideas live in these stories (and yes, my characters are usually braver than their author…I’m working on it).

I’m extremely grateful to my wife, my mother, and my family for their steady support as this world found its rails. I’m equally grateful to my Kenpo instructor and the seniors in our organization; their guidance keeps me honest about what service, humility, and discipline look like in practice.
